The Ireland India Council established India Day in Ireland in 2015 with a collaborative partnership with the Office of Public Works, An Garda Síochána, the Embassy of India and various civic bodies. The celebration is steered by a steering committee drawn from prominent Irish and Indian personalities representing community groups, business leaders, professional institutions and policymakers.

Approximately 40 thousand people visited Farmleigh Estate in the last six years to attend this event. Since the first India day, it has grown into the largest Irish-Indian event in Ireland.

India Day provides multiple opportunities to participants at one place to experience culture, heritage, music, art, crafts, meditation and yoga. Trade, Tourism and business interests are also growing in celebratory settings, and visitors enjoy Indian and continental cuisine with exciting entertainment.

This initiative has received outstanding support in establishing India Day from Mr Seán Ó Fearghaíl, the Ceann Comhairle (Speaker of Irish Parliament), former Taoiseach Mr Leo Varadkar and Mr Enda Kenny, Former Tánaiste's Ms Frances Fitzgerald and Ms Joan Burton.

On the 2nd India Day launch in 2016, the first Ireland-India Parliamentary Friendship Group was established in Ireland and inaugurated by Honourable Ceann Comhairle.
